The History of RiverPointe Baptist Church |
The first worship service of RiverPointe Baptist Church was held October 3, 1999, at the Holiday Inn, Conroe, TX, with Rev. Charles Dooley bringing the message. Arrangements were made with the Holiday Inn to hold services each Sunday morning and evening thereafter. At a meeting on October 14, 1999, the Church Constitution was presented and the vote for acceptance was unanimous. With this vote, RiverPointe Baptist Church became a duly constituted church. Supply preachers and laymen filled the pulpit each Sunday until Dr. Henry Adrion III accepted the call to serve as interim pastor beginning January 2, 2000. In February 2000, the church voted to adopt the following statements:
Mission Statement
RiverPointe Baptist Church is a body of Christian believers united in faith and practice in the mission of sharing our faith in Jesus Christ with our City, our State, our Nation and our World.
Vision Statement
That every member of RiverPointe Baptist Church will have an individual ministry with 1st century Christianity as its model.
Theme
Focused on people - Founded on Scripture - Framed in a blended style.
In November 2000 RiverPointe Baptist Church unanimously extended a call to Dane C. Riddle as pastor. He accepted this call and began his tenure of service on November 19, 2000.
On January 10, 2001, 6.9 acres of land on Gladstell Road was purchased by RiverPointe Baptist Church, with the hope of building a church building on the site in the future as the Lord led.
Prior to building, however, it was determined that a change in the existing location of worship was needed so that the church would be more visible and appealing to young adults, and would be beneficial in meeting young families.
Arrangements were made with the YMCA to meet each Sunday morning and evening for worship services and Wednesday evenings for prayer meeting, using their facilities. Worship services at the YMCA began on March 4, 2001. Beginning in August 2002, the concrete slab was poured for the foundation of the church building to be built on Gladstell Road.
Services of Volunteer Church Builders were used in erecting the building and the first worship service was held in the new building on December 1, 2002. On January 12, 2003, a Service of Dedication was held.
The need for more educational space soon became apparent and a small building was erected beginning in August 2003 and completed for use in October 2003.
Again using volunteer help, this building was built debt free.
On May 11, 2004, a tornado touched down in Conroe leaving substantial damage to homes and businesses and RiverPointe Baptist Church. The Church sustained a large hole in the roof as well as interior structure damage. During the months of repair to the Church, space was leased at a nearby strip center and church services were held each Sunday.
After serving six years as pastor of RiverPointe Baptist Church, Dane Riddle accepted a call to assume the pastorate vacated by his father, Rev. Gaylon Riddle.
Again Rev. Charles Dooley filled the pulpit at RiverPointe but this time as the interim Pastor while the church searched for a new pastor.
On August 29, 2007 RiverPointe Baptist Church unanimously extended a call to Larry A. Strandberg II as pastor. He accepted this call and began his tenure of service on September 9, 2007.
Currently, RiverPointe has experienced moderate growth and averages just over 100 in worship.
